Given that I wasn't around when the new SD tugs were being planned, can anyone still in the job list what all the new tugs are? Namely bollard pull, ASD or Voith or conventional and any other useful info'.
I assume that the invitation to tender would not have specified details of the actual vessels required, rather than sufficient be provided to cover the tasks which were to be covered. So it would be entirely up to SD to decide the vessels specs.
serco had 29 various vessels built for them by damen shipyards group. total cost for the lot -146 million.under the brolly of a private finance initiative(PFI). the only info i have is on the 4 small (21 m long . 8.83 m beam and 3.66 m draft) asd tugs.(azimuth stern drive).they have bow thrusters as well.dont know about bhp but bollard pull is 23.8 tons.max speed is 11.5 knots.named sd deborah.sd suzanne.sd christina and sd eileen.
The 4 new tugs we got at Faslane, where 2 Damen Stan Tugs 2608, they where twin screw bow thrust, can't remember the bollard pull, where called Sd Mars and Sd Jupiter.
The other 2 where 2909 ATD to replace Nimble and Dexterous, azimuth pods with a 38t bollard pull, nice tugs but very noisy accommodation
I don't think they had any, pilots in Faslane we're not happy, they wanted Voiths to replace Nimble and Dexterous, but seem happy with the 2909 when I left, we seemed to be on every job
