Hi,
had a distant relative that was a crew member on the ship Glengyle 2
built 1886. Vessel sold to Japanese company 1904 and rename Myoshino Maru. Can any forum members give me any information as to what happened to the ship after change of owners,and or a Japanese shipping group that may be able to supply the info that I seek. A photograph wouldbe welcome.

GLENGYLE (2) (1886 - 1904)

O.N. 93320. 3,455g. 2,244n. 370.0 x 45.1 x 26.6 feet.
T. 3-cyl. (34”, 58” & 87” x 54”) engine by the shipbuilder. 550 hp.

31.8.1886: Launched by the London & Glasgow Engineering & Iron Shipbuilding Company Ltd., Glasgow (Yard No. 252), for McGregor, Gow & Company.
22.10.1886: Trials and completed.
1904: Sold to Hiroumi Nisaburo, Japan, and renamed MIYOSHINO MARU.
1920: Sold to Hiroumi Shoji Kabushiki Kaisha, Japan.
1926: Owners restyled Hiroumi Shoji K.K.
1930: Sold for demolition.

Be aware that the 2 is not part of her name but refers to the fact that she was the second of the name in the fleet.

There is a photograph of her as a Boer War Transport vessel in the book Glen and Shire Lines by Cooper, Harvey and Laxon published in 2005 by Ships in Focus ISBN 901703-65-7

That's the same image I was referring to and in the book it is credited to Ambrose Greenway collection (Lord Greenway)

in Cornell's Kroch Asia Rare and Manuscript collection online image database , Willard D Straight photo album. It's in leaf 5, lower right hand image. You'll have to download the pdf to see the name of the ship clearly ((Miyoshino), Maru Segoshi). (Zoomed in browser view has artifacts).
