I don't think this is the right Hornet backsplice but the following site has a mention of an American clipper named hornet about the same vintage you were looking for.
If it’s the same Hornet: 1155 Tons, (sorry no other details).
Record of her leaving Liverpool in 1850 for Prince Edward Island; leaving Plymouth in 1854 for Port Philip; leaving Plymouth on 10/11/1858, arriving at Botany Bay on 03/03/1859; leaving London in1859, arriving at Sydney on 03/03/1860; crew list at http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1859/03/006hor.htm leaving Plymouth in 1864, arriving at Sydney on 26/01/1865; leaving India in 1866, arriving at Trinidad on 30/03/1867.
The 113 day voyage, Plymouth to Botany Bay, would suggest she is not the American clipper (caught fire & sunk 1866)
thank you lads i,ll print the details out and pass them on ...i may have overlooked the fact that cameras were,nt common place in them days .......once again thank you ..backsplice
