Mulbera
Going through old photos, came across this miniature model of MULBERA that I made some years ago (No longer in my posession). Full hull, but I superimposed a picture of the sea on top of it. Listing a bit, but pleased with the result.

Looks great, Bob, almost a better looking ship ran the real thing
In the early 1950's, I spent a week or so on "staff" in her while she was in the Royal Albert Dock. At some stage she had had the radial davits changed to what I call "overarc-quadrant". The pssenger ships had not by then changed to white hull - none of the Home Line "M's" ever did sport this livery, but when I was aboard MULBERA, the inboard half of the lifeboats were painted white with the outboard halves retaining the the current boat livery. of black hull with a chocolate gunwale The idea was apparently to enhance light reaching the boat deck cabins!!! I think it might have been a "one-off" trial Regards Tom |

Thanks, I never heard about half-and-half boats (black/white). They were all black on my MULBERA. Here is a dandy little model I made of one of their old ones, BANDRA of 1914. Have also built DILWARA and PACHUMBA. PACHUMBA was one of those WW2 standard designs with angled steel girders holding up the bridge wings!

A real beauty! I never did see BANDRA -she was on the Calcutta/Chittagong run and scrapped before I reached the Bay of Bengal. However, BAMORA,BARPETA, BARALA were regulars inBombay in 1947/8 (I also had six moinths in PACHUMBA while a cadet. Hardly in the same league, as far as good looks was concerned!

Sailed in "Mulbera" in 1953 as first trip Cadet, did two trips to East Africa, then joined "Chantala",spent the rest of my cadetship in her. Did eleven months in"Pachumba" as Third mate - the "good old days" - the a/c was a 12" fan and the "bar" was the leeward side "gun" platform just below the bridge!

I was a cadet on the Mulbera for her last trip.
