I know this is not strictly speaking a Union Co vessel, but have placed this query here as I felt it would be mainly Kiwi viewers looking who most likely be able to answer this one.
This vessel has slipped off my radar screen and i would love to know what eventually happened to her.
Mike,
I seem to recall she was bought with the intention of converting her into a small cruise ship but the task proved more difficult than expected and wasn't proceeded with. As far as I know she didn't enter commercial service again.
Hi Mike,
Re Monowai.
She was built in 1960 as the Moana Roa by Grangemouth Dockyard Company Ltd for trading to the Pacific Islands.
She was 2753 GRT 90.38 loa 14.1 Breadth 5.2 Depth
Powered by Twin 7 Cylinder Clark Sultzer Diesels giving a service speed of 13.5 Knts
1977 Was converted by Scott Lithgrow Drydocks Ltd of Glasgow to a Hydrographic Research and Survey Vessel and owned by the Royal New Zealand Naval Hydrographic Services.
Thanks very much to all who responded to my query.
It is much appreciated.. Plus, as a bonus, I have now got some more shipping sites that I did not know about.
Rgds/Mike
