Hello to all!
There's a ship I need help to identify:
Ogliari/Radogna state in their book Navigazione Generale Italiana that the Italian Shipping Co. Societa die Navigazione Sicilia acquired a ship named Tobruk ex Oron (built 1898, 3171 grt) in 1913, broken up in 1923.
I can not find this vessel in Lloyd's Register of 1914/15. Moreover, the ship to which this data fits was the Oron of Elder, Dempster Line, sold only in 1919 and then to a Spanish Company.
Can anyone provide information of the origins of the Tobruk and if she even existed ?
Kind Regards from Hamburg
Helmut

thank you very much for your answer. My question, though, was related to the steamer Tobruk and her origins. The Oron can be found in the History of Elder,Dempster Line.
Morning Helmut, also from The Ships List website although not a complete list of NGI ships no mention of a vessel Tobruk.I also researched GNI a few years ago and From the information I gathered I have no mention of a vessel Tobruk. The Starke Register of ships built 1898 no mention of it either.
Thank you so much, this is very helpful. Can you give me the tonnage (3634 grt?), the type of the ship (Passenger? Cargo?) and perhaps the service speed, too ?
the Tobruk was said to be acquired by Societa di Nav. Sicilia in 1913, after their separation from NGI. If she existed, she was never a NGI-vessel. And she was obviously not the ex-Oron and was presumably not built in 1898, but what was she before she became the Tobruk ?
Kind Regards
Helmut
