K class - late 30s
Folks:
On Ebay a photo has appeared with an incorrect caption of "Rattakia". The vessel is a stern view of what appears to be one of the four late 30s K class employed on the MANZ service and which were later transferred to Avenue Shipping, KAIKOURA, KAIPAKI, KAIPARA, KAITUNA: www.raywoodmore.com/rn143.jpg Anyone able to identify this individual vessel? Cheers, Geoff |

Looks like Kaipara, 1938, William Doxford, Sunderland. Transferred to Avenue as Roscommon in 1955. Sold 1962, broken up 1967. Identified by shorter kingposts at No.2/3 and lack of tall ventilators aft of bridge. Kaikoura and Kaipaki (Alexander Stephen and Sons) were similar but Kaituna was built in Sweden, smaller and with compact accomodation.

Wow! Thanks Brian. I'd almost given up on this one.
