Post Pegu

Great photo. The ship is in such good condition that it looks like a builder's trials shot. When built she could achieve 14 knots.
This Pegu was the sixth to carry that name for British & Burmese and operated on their Rangoon service until it was closed in 1966. The Liner Holdings group and the subsequent parent, Ocean SS frequently moved ships between different subsidiaries whilst retaining the same ship's name. In the case of the Pegu she was transferred to Elder Dempster in 1964, to Guinea Gulf in 1966, to China Mutual for one voyage in 1972 and back to Elder Dempster on her return to the UK. Finally she was transferred to Guinea Gulf again in 1975, staying with them until 1980 when she was sold to Sidebank Investments of the Isle of Man and renamed Regu.
The following year she was sold to Akrata Shipping of Cyprus as the Joelle, who kept her for a year before selling her to another Cyprus shipowner, Salerno Marine, who renamed her Nicol Mylo. She was sold for scrap and broken up at Kaohsiung during November 1983.
