You name is familiar as one of the cadets in WELLPARK in '79. Were you in a group that paid off in Groote Island, Gulf of Carpentaria about Feb 1980?

Hi stephen, I paid off the wellpark in Kuwait 79.Ithink you were 2nd mate getting sea time. I have the sextant from the ill fated broompark.

correct iam the very person, joined in loch striven paid off in rotterdam 1980. had a wonderfull two months in lisbon dry dock/ashore???

I was a Deck Cadet and paid off the Wellpark in Groote Island in February 1980.
I seem to recall the name Simon Kingham. I joined the Wellpark in Nagasaki in August or September 1979.
The trips to China were very interesting to say the least.
I was a stammering first tripper by the name of Graeme MacKenzie.

Hi Simon, I remember Simon Kingman joined the Wellpark a couple of months after me.
I'm not familiar with the 3rd mate Duncan McCall that you mentioned.

After paying off the Wellpark I had 4 weeks leave and joined the Cast Gull in Bakar, Yugoslavia and was amazed at the vessel tied up nearby - yep, the Wellpark!

from my dis book i paid off the cast gull on the 8/3/80 in Bakar, had my wife and daughter with me , if memory serves i seem to remember lots of problems getting out of the country , as there was a problem with Tito ???
Also a couple of days before arrival there , we were all in the bar and there was a slight bang , somebody said oh thats the emergency fire pump starting , they are testing it .It wasnt until the pilot boarded and he pointed out the large bulge in the ships stbd side just ford of the bridge in area of the slop tank . Did anything come of this , or have i just invented it .

Hi Mike,

I see from my diary that I joined the Cast Gull on 10th March 1980.

I'm not aware of any damage to the hull.

The Wellpark was in nearby Rijeka at the time.

We sailed on 12th March for Turkey.

Hi graeme,thanks for that, after the wellpark, had aspell at collage(glasgow).then joined coastal corpus christie(loch stiiven).I ended up sailing as GP1 with denholms. left in 1991.Sailed with duncan on cast otter,as GP1.HHtook hi 2nd mates. ended up with ncal mac??? came from Oban
