Can anyone shed some light here?
I've been doing some family tree work and find that a relative arrived in London onboard the Durban Castle on 11.9.55 - she had come from SA, not sure which port. However, we had long been led to believe that she could have arrived no earlier than January 56 so this is causing some degree of confusion. This theory has been put forward by someone to whom the information has special significance: "I'm wondering is whether that's the date the boat LEFT London - maybe it arrived in London on 11th Sept to pick up passengers etc and then left for the cruise, ie one voyage's end was the beginning of another one." This doesn't sound likely to me, anyone got an opinion? Many thanks TJ |

I'm not sure where you are Tina, but if you can get to the Guildhall Library in the City of London, they have the Voyage Record Cards available to see.
Take a look at : http://217.154.230.218/NR/rdonlyres/...dsDTBMay08.pdf (You may need to cut & paste the URL into your browser address bar) They may be able to help. Cheers Andy |

If you have had no luck with your research since last year try Findmypast.co.uk. You will have to pay for a few credits but look under the heading "migration". Here I was able to access, and print, the passenger list for the Durban Castle sailing 12th Feb 1954 when my mother and I embarked from London for Kenya to join my father. I also printed off the passenger list for the Kenya Castle sailing 13th November 1957 when my parents and I returned to Kenya after my fathers 6 months leave.
Hope this proves to be of help to you. Keith |
