The book is entitled "Looking for the Silver Lining" by Martin Barraclough. I have seen it advertised in Ships Monthly by Ships in Focus book suppliers of Preston. As i sailed on the Silverisle in the 1960's i became aware of this book.

Hi, here's another ex-employee. Tramped on the Silverwalnut out of San Pedro round-the-world (their ships did not touch UK ports) in 1950 as an apprentice. Then the Silvertarn in 1953, that one did put in to a UK port (Hull) with a British crew. You can read all about Silver Line on Wikipedia.

Unhappy Mike Smith, RIP.

Mike and I were apprentices together on the Silverwalnut, out of San Pedro, and round and round the world for the next 2 years (1950-1952.) I left for the world of entertainment, and he worked his way up through the ranks to the boardroom I believe, of Silver Line management. (Superintendant?). Sadly, he crossed the bar at lunchtime, May 19 2014, his daughter Julie emailed me today, as the sun was over the yardarm in time for cocktails. I'm sure many of you Silver Liners knew him and sailed with him.
