HMS Sluna was an Isles class minewsweeping trawler built in 1941. All the Isles class were named after islands/islets around Great Britain. However, I cannot find an island/islet named Sluna anywhere. Can anybody identify the piece of geography HMS Sluna was named for? Its driving me nuts.
Thanks
Bob Munson
To all the good folks who welcomed me into SN, I give my heartfelt thanks. It seems we have a great bunch of people involved.
To Greybeard,I have also heard from Eriksay and Lancastrian regarding HMS Sluna and the consensus of the four of us is that a typographical error in the communication to Cochrane changed Shuna to Sluna. Whatever the situation, HMS Sluna made an honorable contribution to the Allied cause. Bob
Good Morning Bob,
Just for info, there is a Ships' Bell in the dining room at my kids School and it is marked HMT SLUNA.
