Does anyone remember a John Metcalfe who sailed in M.V.Gambia Palm around 1950? Any details and information would be greatly appreciated

I sailed in the Gambia Palm in 1955, but I don't remember the name. What did he do on board?

As far as I Know he was a carpenter or carpenters mate
