Served four years on the Pass of Balmaha. Will have a look around and am sure I will come up with something

There is alot of information on this vessel on www.merchant-navy.net including personnel who sailed on her with contact email address.Sure one of these gents can help you with a photo

Sorry but I should have read your request more carefully.

I joined the Pass of Balmaha in Febtuary 1980.
Obviously not the one you wanted.
Think she was built somewhere in the Humber area.

I seved in Pass of Balmaha in 1977 and I think she was managed by Pan Ocean which was something to do with P&O. May be wrong but thats the way I remember it.

As ever RUUD has the correct ship, old oil fired SS 3 cyl.

I have just had a look at your link Gdynia, for which I am most grateful.
The tears of laughter are running down my cheeks tho', it says "Radio Officer" as a crew member. The set on the old Pass was built by Marconi himself I think and it wouldnt have worked for a radio officer, only with prayers and a strong self belief !! Thanks for your help tho'

I am looking for info on the "Pass of Balmaha"built in the Clyde in 1888,captured by the germans in 1915 and renamed"seealder"converted to a commerce raider, and was under command of Kapitan Felix Von Lucker, but then the trail goes cold

Hamish, Pass of Balmaha, Official no.95087, built by Robert Duncan & Co., Port Glasgow as his 237th ship in 1888 for Gibson and Clark, Glasgow. 1498 reg.tons, steel full-rigger, Master in 1899- Capt. Scougall. Sold 1908 to the River Plate Shipping Co., Master- Capt Dick Lee. Later sold to the Pass of Balmaha Co. Montreal and Quebec. She seems to have passed to Americian owners before the war as she was flying the Americian flag and under the command of Capt. Scott when seized by the R.N. in 1916. With R.N crew and on her way to Scapa Flow she was seized in turn by a German sub and taken to Cuxhaven. Converted to a raider and renamed See-Adler (Sea Eagle) with false Norwegian papers and name (Irma) she was fitted with radio, guns, a 1500 auxiliary engine and 64 crew under Commander Graf Felix Von Luckner she was eventully wrecked on a reef of the remote Paciic island of Mopelia in the month of Aug. 1917. I have a photo of Pass of Kintail in an old scrapbook. As far as I know, Pass of Balmaha was the first of the class of similar ships, but you would have to check that.
