Rhaphanidosis
Nothing what so ever to do with the sea, well not in any company I sailed with, but what does the word Rhaphanidosis mean?

Rhaphanidosis
Rhaphanidosis involves radishes, mallets and unfaithful husbands. The rest I leave to your imagination.

Not sure about Rhaphanidosis but probably related to:
Rhaphania is a spasmodic disease caused by eating the seeds of wild radish, it is similar and allied to ergotism which is probably more common. From the Greek Rhaphanos = Radish. Last edited by Clockman : 18th March 2006 at 19:34. |

Hi Jeff,
It's not in my edition of the Oxford Dictionary and it's not in the Cambridge International Dictionary of English (CIDE). Obviously not a Geordie word as the Editor in Chief of CIDE was a Geordie who I met in Istanbul Airport, in the bar, and he sent me a free copy!! What crossword do you do? Cheers, Alex |

Agree with previous posters this is not in the main dictionaries - I checked out OED and Websters plus some on line sites. A Google search finds some sites that say this has a classical greek origin - but that could be a load of crap!
King Rat and Pompeyfan seem to have found the same internet sites as me. Bet they didn't find the one with the picture on involving two ladies and a plate of radishes though. I ain't going to reference it here - you can look for it yourself if you are that sordid - definitely not suitable for polite company or children. Now Jeff - is there something you are trying to tell us here? Brian |

Brian[/QUOTE Were the ladies enjoying radishes before, after or during raphanidosis? There is restaurant chain with a popular salad bar called "Sizzlers" - now I know where the name comes from!
