I was Senior Third Mate on her final voyage and responsible for the pennant! I too have the souvenir postcard, plus the passenger list and a few other odds and ends. I also have the two books about NZSCo from her library - Clipper Ship to Motor Liner and Ordeal by Sea.
Cheers. |

Good to hear from you, Mike. I came across this site when researching Mobil Fuel 1939 yesterday. Our Wellington Mission to Seafarers has the foc's'le bell and we want to mount a plaque beside it to tell visitors about the ship that it came from. We have no idea why we won it!
I notice lots on the Christchurch earthquake on this site as well. We are about to host a family that has been traumatised by the quake for a few days during the school holidays. Ironically the woman's father is a Master Mariner, aged 78 and living at Diamond Harbour, the epicentre of one of the large aftershocks. Talk soon, Peter Durham 1957-1961 |
