Hi everyone... British Merchant seaman once years ago, living in Timaru and feeling nostalgic about ships of the immediate post-war years. Ships like the Bravo, the City of Capetown, the City of Singapore, stuff like that.

Hello Stee1968.
Just a long shot - I am ex Bank Line and, whilst I frequently passed Timaru going from Christchurch to Dunedin on the phosphate run in the 1950s, I haven' visited your home town. I know that Timaru is a long way from New Plymouth but on my first trip to sea in 1952/3 I was friendly with an engineer called Bob Fluker who kept the ship awake playing his trumpet who came from that town. I was recently informed that Breakwater Road where he lived is now a car park so the chances of contact appear to be nil. I wonder whether you have crossed his path in your travels?
Best regards, Roger Loads

I bumped in to an old BI engineer friend of mine whilst in Timaru in the early 70's (name of Alan Trodden from Middlesbrough) - often wonder whatever happened to him ?????
