Hi I am Rob Thomson and have a special interest in New Zealand Shipping in 1920s - 1940s. Amongst many others my grandfather sailed on 'Awatea' and paid off in Glasgow in 1942 just weeks before she was sunk. He was also on 'Tahiti' whewn she foundered in 1930. I am looking for more info and photo's.

Looking forward to being a member of Ships Nostalgia.

Welcome Rob,
My father sailed on the Awatea 1939, fortunately he survived the war(otherwise I would not be here writing this) but not the poor Awatea. I personally think she was one of the finest looking vessels of her time.
Regards Brian.
