In a statement, his manager said: “Mr Last passed away yesterday in Florida, peacefully and in the presence of his family.”

Thanks for posting this. May he rest in peace. Always enjoyed his 'laid back' style.

That is very sad. He was live at the Royal Albert Hall in April. Mine and my son's favourite orchestra. RIP Hansi(James Last). Thanks for many years of wonderful music.

Only a couple of days ago, I had his version of "Lara's Theme" running around in my head, it was always one of my favourites of his music.

Had a reel to reel upright Akai tape recorder/player (Sembawang) Special) in the mid sixties and played hours of his music - much enjoyed by all. Always an ice breaker with the QA nursing staff or the military teachers if we had a 'social evening' on board (RFA). Sad to see him go, but brought enjoyment to many people for a very long time. Just thought on, many of those 'schoolies' are my age now!! :)

So sad he has passed on. He brought great pleasure over the years, and was a particular favourite of my late wife.
RIP

When I bought my first stereo it came with a demonstration record of James Last music. It was so great I drove the wife and kids crazy and played it until it wore out.

I met him a few times in Florida (in the 80's) where he lived, a nice regular guy no pretensions even though at the time he was high in the charts. Loved his musical style - great for parties and BBQ's. R.I.P.

Here's a link to a concert he did for the BBC in 1976: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=111&v=xWAbnF_7eO8

I remember once watching something about him on German MTV, He was arranging, producing and recording a Hip Hop Group. During the recording, which I think might have been at his home, they had a Barbeque and James did the cooking. Just shows how down to earth he was. R.I.P.
