It looks like the Pilot has been killed even though he had ejected when his aircraft crashed near Lakenheath this morning. It was one of a number of aircraft returning to Miramar.
Condolences to his family.

Good thing it came down in fields/fens. There are several villages and towns in the area, as well as the city of Ely that could have been devastated, with serious loss of life, if it had come down in them. We get them flying over very low in pairs on a regular basis on their way to Lakenheath.

The attached is apparently the aircraft concerned, the rest of the flight plus their Tanker tried to get back into Lakenheath / Mildenhall but do to weather conditions could not land and may have landed at Lossiemouth which is a bit of irony bearing in mind that the original 'Top Gun' Instructors were trained by Fleet Air Arm Pilots from the Air Warfare Instructors School which was based at Lossiemouth all those years ago prior to the the formation of the 'Top Gun' training programme.
It is a sad day when a young Pilot has died in the Service of his Country on their way home to his loving family.
