Yesterday the Daily Telegraph had an amazing photo of the US Destroyer Zumwalt heading out on her first sea trials. It is easy to understand why the US Navy eventually decided that they would not receive a budget for a fleet of these monsters.

Fred, There are further pictures and video of the sea-trials on GCaptain at http://gcaptain.com/video-first-footage-of-future-uss-zumwalt-ddg-1000-underway/#.VmhVjfmDGko . I have seen a number of recent reports/blogs raising concerns about the seaworthyness of this design! Any thoughts? Chris

Wow bears little resemblance to naval ships as I remember them. (Smoke)

As Zumwalt is expected to cost $4.4 billion I assume that full seakeeping model tank tests were carried out before construction began.

No on-deck bronzy-bronzy (sunbathing) on that ship, but she is equipped with tanning beds. Old Admiral Zumwalt would be mighty proud of her.

I think it's a fantastic ship.

Showed the picture to my wife and she said..." It's very 'swish'......and so easy to keep clean"!!!
