Capt. NH Corkill was promoted to Master in E&P on 21 January 1971 and is now in command of Tormes

Capt. D. Williams was promoted Master in E&P on 18 January 1971 and is now in command of Cortian.

Mr. R. Godley who joined the sea staff in 1941 retired as Purser / Chief Steward on 01 February 1971.

Mr. G. Whyte joined City Line in 1929 and City of Birmingham. He was 2nd Engineer of City of Nagpur when she was torpedoed in 1941. He was appointed Chief Engineer of Empire Comfort in 1944. In 1947 he was appointed Assistant Superintendent Engineer and in 1960 appointed Chief Superintendent Engineer. He retired on 29 January 1971.

Capt. BF Walker who subsequent to his Apprenticeship with Hall Line was promoted to 3rd Officer in 1929. His first command was City of Kimberley in 1955. He retired on 01 January 1971.

Mr. TJ Blenkarn died on 14 January 1971. He joined in 1930 as Junior Engineer and in 1949 was promoted to Chief Engineer of City of Lucknow. He was due to retire at the end of January 1971.

Mr. JC Calamell has died in 1971. He retired in 1961 when Chief Engineer of City of Stafford.

Capt. EG Chapman died on 04 February 1971. He joined E&B in 1913 as an Apprentice on Karroo. He was appointed Master of City of Birmingham in 1937 and retired in 1961.

Capt. T. Cooper died in hospital on 28 October 1970 after a fall. He was Apprentice with Hall Line and joined Netherby Hall in 1910 as 3rd Officer. His first command was Merton Hall in 1924. He was appointed Commodore in 1955 and retired in 1956.

Mr. JA Gibson collapsed and died at sea on 14 January 1971 whilst serving as Chief Officer on City of Wellington.

Capt. WA Thompson died on 27 October 1970 aged 82. He joined the Wilson Line in 1910 as Chief Officer of Eskimo and was Master of Kyno when she was torpedoed in 1940. He was an Elder Brother of Trinity House.
