Welcome to this wonderful site, where old seamen generally chew the fat and remember lost youth!

I have a discharge certificate for an ancestor John Murray of Aberdeen, it is dated 4th June 1880 and states he was the mate on the Hindostan, joining the ship which was first registered in Aberdeen, on 6th April 1880. It gives no reason for the discharge only comment is that his character et. were all very good. I believe he died soon after but have no details. Does anyone have any information on this ship at all? I would be very grateful for any help as I am stuck with researching the family tree and can get no further than John Murray but not having his date or place of death it is proving to be really difficult. Hope someone can help.
