Hello, I have to confess to joining the forum to get help in finding family history details for my stepfather. His father Edwin Richard Thorn supposedly worked for Ropners', was 'First Engineer' on the Westonby when it was torpedoed but survivied, worked on tug boats in Newport docks in 'the war', didn't finish his training (as ? what) - because he got married young and against his parents' wishes.! Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding out more info - the idiots guide please! Let's hope I don't spoil too many family legends!
Thanks in anticipation, I've already made note of the stuff re Ropners and the list of museums to visit from googling Westonby- which is how I got to this site.
