HMS Colossus - Old Slosher?

Can anyone help me please? I am trying to find out if HMS Colossus had the nickname 'Old Slosher'. Also, does anyone know where I can find the names of the crew that served on Colossus, at the Battle of Jutland, in 1916?

Many thanks for any help, Maddie

Maddie, from Michigan, a warm welcome to Ships Nostalgia.
Good to have you onboard.
Ships Nostalgia is a friendly place and you're doing just fine.
At the following URL there is an interesting WWI sailor's personal history and at the beginning of the third paragraph is confirmation that HMS Colossus was indeed nicknamed 'Old Slosher'.
Perhaps another member will point you in the direction of crew lists for the vessel.

First of all a belated welcome to SN, others have responded well on the nickname of HHMS Colossus, I dont know if you have seen the SN directory but there is a little of Colossus's history in the directory CLICK HERE ( and although not a complte crew list there is a quite a bit of interest in her in THIS ( website.
I will have to add nicknames to the directory entries.

I'm trying to research a piece of family history..

Hi Maddie and welcome.

Have you searched the National Archives Registers of Seamen's Services for Royal Navy ratings?

You can download service records for 3.50. It should list the ships served on and may confirm, if that's what you trying to do, whether a particular person was at the Battle of Jutland.
