Gentlemen, (not forgetting the Ladies).
I would like to mention that anyone requesting an avatar via normal email will have his or her email address deleted immediately on completion of the project.
Ex Radio Officers will no doubt remember our pledge to "secrecy of correspondence."
Best regards all round... Malcolm

The "Secrecy of Correspondence" didn't seem to apply to nosey 3rd Mates mooching around when no-one was in the radio room - annoying but great for setting up rumours!

On one Niarchos tanker, the crew sometimes knew before the Skipper.
Reason, all prospective Greek R/O's had to have six months sea time in before taking their tickets eg as deck or catering hands.
During this time, hopefully pick up a bit of radio experience from the ship's R/O.
I had one trainee, when working on deck, would hightail it aft to listen to the breakthrough of our transmitter on the cook's personal radio!
