Changed days since then , I vaguely remember Jimmy and better remember Paddy.

The boat linked above does the crossing in 20mins , we have a larger CalMac RoRo which also runs (45mins).

I do recall the name and have a copy of "The Harsh Winds of Rathlin" on the bookshelf, and know of Tommy's life.

It may be stretching the truth to say that Paddy inspired me to follow a career as a Marine Engineer, but I have very fond memories of my times there as a child, on the island and around the boats.
I went back some years ago with my own family on the CANNA - skippered by Jimmy's son? - and was delighted to see the character of the island unchanged. A bit more traffic and Tar MacAdam!! but still Rathlin.

Thanx for all the welcomes.

Yes indeed Jimmy McCurdy has a son working the ferry (Dominic), also Paddy McQuilkin has a nephew (Joseph) working the same shift.Joseph also has a son (John) who now works alongside me.
