Sailed with Ronnie in the late 80's in Speedster Universal, after the demise of the UC mailboats. I don't think the MN was quite the same for him after SA Vaal.
Sad news indeed.

Sailed with him on the King Richard a couple of times, & then a couple of the foreign flag reefers. As you say, it wasn't the same for him after the Vaal.

RIP Ron.

Hi, sorry to be late posting, I have only recently joined, I was known as "Boyo" 4eng in 1975 when I sailed on the Vaal with "Nookie Crook" as we called him, what a super chief he was. He had this pet habit of sneeking around to the evap at about 1500hrs and increasing the sw inlet to get the fw output up,he would then appear on the platform as if he was checking out the plant, and then back up top, leaving us to sort out the vap which of course would go all to hell , we put markers on the valve in the end ,and would return it to its original position as soon as he got in the lift, the valve became known affectionatly as the nookie crook valve, great times great c/e. fond times .Paul
