Melroy,
Welcome to SN from East Yorkshire, I dont have much on the alliance but there is quite a bit on her at the Historic Naval ships website HERE (http://www.hnsa.org/ships/alliance.htm)

The A class submarines : Acheron, Aeneas, Afray, Alaric, Alcide, Alderney, Alliance, Ambush, Amphion and Anchorite were the last large submarines built under the War Emegency Plan (WEP). Only the completed ships of the class are named above many were cancelled due to the end of the war and none saw any wartime service.
The principle feature of the class was their size, somewhat larger than previous ships they were designed to fight the Japanese and so had better living quarters, this does not mean they were comfortable - just slghtly better than previous designs.
