Hello from Brisbane, Queensland

Thanks for accepting my registration. I have an interest in ships related to Immigration and Convicts. Tracking some of the Immigration ships from UK to Australia has been tricky. The first two I am interested in tracking journeys for are:

MV Cheshire - departed Liverpool on 7 Nov 1950 and arrived in Sydney 18 1950. Can not find anything on direction of travel nor date of arrival in Fremantle.

Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt - Dep Bombay (unk date 1946) and arrived England Dec 24 1946. Can not find anything on departure date from India nor the direction of travel or passenger lists.

These vessels are a crucial part of my Family History assignment.

I seem to have exhausted known avenues of inquiry and databases on Ancestry.com.au

Any ideas and or guidance would be much appreciated.

MV CHESHIRE official number 149625.
Australian newspapers say she arrived in Freemantle 09/12/1950. You may wish to research further using this resource.

You may have already done this but it may pay you to look at the outward passenger list. If it has survived it should tell you what you wish to know. Available from the pay to view site Find My Past.

If this action doesn't bear fruit, you should look at her first 1951 logbook. This will tell you times and dates of arrival and departure of any ports she stopped at.
Logbooks are stored by the year the vessel returned to a UK port.
The Maritime History Archive at the Memorial University of Newfoundland is the place to ask. Their catalogue is not indexed from 1951-1972 so you will have to enquire. Be sure to include the ships official number. Just ask for the pages giving details of arrivals and departures.

She reverted to Dutch ownership after WW2 so info is a little harder to find.
This is the only inward passenger list for 1946.
You can download a copy from Ancestry UK.
