Pre-sea training at Plymouth School of Navigation 1959/60. Served my time with Furness-Withey and sailed with Prince, Furness-Bermuda, Royal Mail, PSNC and Cairn Lines within the group until Masters in 1970. Then joined Esso tankers for a while, moved to Ocean Inchcape in the North Sea, thence to Unicorn Lines on the South African coast.
Joined the South African Harbour Service in 1974 and remained until retirement in 2009 in various capacities - tugmaster, dredgermaster and pilot.

Hello Peter,

Long time no hear, is everything OK?

I spent a few happy years sailing to Durban on the mail ships. How is it to live in SA now?

Some say its better than ever, some say very bad.

Should I bring my wife to show her the place where I spent some happy times?

Whats your take on things please?
