Peter Falk (Colombo) Died yesterday :(
One of the better US actors in my book.
He played the Colombo in the well known detective series over a period of many years. He was 83.

Sad news! Enjoyed the Colombo series very much.. it feels as if before he went he'd have turned back and said ' Ah, Just one thing.....
RIP

Seem to remember him suffering from Alzheimers as reported a year or two ago - so he might not have been that present lately although technically still alive.
Yeah, Columbo was fun, he was demonstrably poor (give that man a NEW cigar), and all the bastards he finally nabbed were filthy rich... probably with our money. (Jester)

According to his biography, he was a cook in the US Merchant Marine for a year and a half in 1945.

Colombo, if he made it through the doorway without turning round, the killer was home free. If he stopped, and turned round, the murderer was screwed and might just as well confessed there and then.
A great show for the first year or so, but it got a bit same old same old after a while.

I understand that Peter Falk sailed in the Merchant Marine during World War II, as a member of the Steward Department, because he couldn't get into the military due to having only one eye.

One of my favourite actors. His unforgettable role as the young truck driver in "Price of Tomatoes" still sticks in my memory. I think he won some kind of gong for it in the early '60's. A sad passing.
