New camera ideas

Hi Folks

I am considering a new camera this summer and am wondering if anyone can suggest a good one ideal for maritime photography?

I have a budget for around 400 max and generally prefer something with a good long distance lens. In recent years I have been on a budget with a Fuji but have never been happy with the end picture.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Steve

Consider buying second hand, Nikon D200s are now very reasonably priced and ruggedly built - check the number of shutter actuations to make sure you don't get an ex professional hack though and then you get access to the whole range of Nikon fitting lenses (I use a Sigma 28 ~ 200 with optical stabilisation as my main lens at the moment)

D 200 is a great camera. I use it as my main. Fantastic lenses available.. D 300 might be available too but over your budget I would think

Take a look at the Panasonic FZ range 15, 28, 45, 100, 150. No need for lens changes as you get up to 150x zoom, with optical image stabiliser. I have a FZ28 which has 74x zoom on manual setting 18x zoom at 12mp & 32.1 at 3mp, the newer models have better range, easy control & excellent tools all built in. These are not DSLR's but 'Bridge' cameras. The majority of pics in my Gallery where taken using the FZ28.

FZ 150 selling for 399.99 so you will get change too.
