Local Govt conference 'over the top' - Councillor

14 July 2012
36 delegates from Auckland Council are off to Queenstown for the Local Government conference - costing ratepayers $93,000.

The party will fly there tomorrow for the two day conference.

They'll be staying at the Millennium and Copthorne Resort Lakefront hotels.

Councillor Cameron Brewer says it's nothing more than a ratepayer funded junket.

"The reason we amalgamated was to cut down the duplicity and the costs, and sending down 36 representatives from one council is frankly over the top and will disgust most ratepayers."
Taken off NZ News, can the UK Local Governments beat this one. It works out about $3000 per person for 2days

Garry,
I do not think the UK politicians would get by on such a meagerror amount. That would not cover the meals :)
Cheers Bob

They must do things differently in New Zealand.
I worked in local government for twenty seven years and never got as much as a sniff of a junket.
