SS Albert Gallatin: Liberty freighter

8th August 2012, 14:20

On the above July date she had her first brush with a German U-boat off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. [this event was not related to a ‘convoy’ situation] Although this was a scary event for the crew, there was no damage to the ship itself, and she went on her merry way, but woven into this event off the Georgia coast is a story in itself. Actually the SS Albert Gallatin was attacked by U-107 on this particular day. Also there was a blimp involved....which is referred to as K-34. Then she had her encounter with I-26 whereas she met her fate.
