P&O Stratheden

31st January 2013, 21:04
I am a former evacuee from London and shipped out to Sydney on August 4, 1940 on M/S Batory. I sailed to the UK in September 1945 on board the HMS Stratheden carrying troops, pow's and evacuee children. I was 11 years old.

I'd like to trace anyone on that voyage either evacuee, troop, crew, and returning pow. In those turbulent times at the end of the second world war in Europe, we were still at war with Japan. Are you aware of any other way I can research this voyage?

My fingers are X'd - thanks for your interest and help.

Welcome to Ships Nostalgia. You will find a lot of info in general about Stratheden at this site:-

It doesn't directly answer your question yet, but hopefully someone will, soon.
I was 4/O in Stratheden's slightly younger sister Strathmore.

Good luck.

Also on behalf of the 'SN Moderating Team', welcome aboard Teapot10.

I once wrote about the history of P&O when working aboard the 1954 built Arcadia, which I repeated here on SN https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/showthread.php?t=3560

Post #14 mentions Stratheden. Sadly, information available to me did not include your trip, but it was her last voyage as a troopship before being reconverted to a passenger liner. Good luck with your search (Thumb)

Hello Teapot 10. I wondered if you had seen the picture of evacuee children boarding HMS Stratheden in October 1945. I have a book from the ships library.
