The RCN took the surrender of German U-boats at the end of the Second World War. The process and chain of events was interesting, practical and contrary to some popular belief. Dealing with the personalities involved was a challenge for a Canadian naval officer, Lieutenant John J. Coates RCNVR, who took the surrender on a number of German naval ships at the end of the Second World War.
