Hello everyone,
I feel I have joined this site for the wrong reasons. (sorry)
I am researching my family history and my Great Uncle served on the Ellerman line. I was hoping to get a photo of one of the ships he served on. The S.S City of Sydney. his name was Herbert Lewis and he was a purser and Bedroom steward, (not sure which was first).

What do the members think, I know you are not a family research site, just thought I would be able to get info about him. Thank you. Carol

Carol,

On behalf of the SN Moderators, a warm welcome aboard from the Isle of Anglesey.
You will thoroughly enjoy the SN experience and, since you share common interests with many of our members, you will also undoubtedly be exchanging messages before long. (Thumb)

Is this (https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/170757/title/city-of-sydney/cat/510) the one Carol?
If so, there are a few photographs of her in our Gallery. (Thumb)

Also on behalf of the 'SN Moderating Team', welcome aboard Carol.

We certainly have members who worked for Ellerman Line who will hopefully have information about your Great Uncle. Good luck.

I ws 3rd Mate on this ship in about '75-76 when she was City of Montreal, she was a motor ship and did not have "bedroom stewards" (unfortunately), the S.S. must have been an earlier vessel. When did your great uncle sail on her?

Hello Carol and welcome,
The previous 'CITY OF SYDNEY' was built in 1930 and was broken up at Hong Kong in 1960.

If you can give his full name date and place of birth we may be able to help you further.
Regards
Hugh
