Thank you for your welcome.
I am a transcriber for FIBIS, currently working on passenger arrivals/departures into/out of Bombay in the 1880s. The information (from the India Times) goes into a database for family historians to consult. The print in the scans of the IT is not always clear and sometimes I need help! I'm currently working on May 1884; a P&O steamer has arrived into Bombay from London named (indecipherably) Mannilia/Manzilia??? Can anyone help?

On behalf the 'SN Moderating Team', welcome aboard aeh1.

Massillia was completed in 1884, noted for the innovation of hydraulic winches giving quieter running when working cargo in port and reducing annoyance to passengers. Electric light was also installed. Hope this helps.

David, many thanks! It's so good to be able to ask. I'm afraid I'm very unlikely to have anything to contribute in return. Occasionally there's a report of a disaster ... might be of interest to others?
