Sparky's Nephew

I'm new here - registered today.

I have never been a seaman - but if I had my life again, I should certainly consider it. I have a cousin in the FAA and have recently learned that a great uncle who died earlier this year was a merchant seaman. Indeed, it was my family history research, trying to find out a bit more about him, that brought me to this site.

I love travelling in ships - largely because I love the Scottish and other islands round the British coastline - and have made most of the UK domestic ferry crossings. The last of the outstanding longer crossings are to Douglas and the Shetlands. I'm hoping to do Aberdeen - Shetland later this summer. Douglas remains on the "to do" list ...

[Edited to add - I've posted a few of my photographs to the Gallery. I hope they're of interest]
