Greetings everyone and all the best for 2007.

I started going to sea in 1970 with Ocean Fleets of Liverpool as a Radio Officer , and now at 54 am still seagoing with Holland America Line as IT Officer.
Looking forward to communicating

Right now enjoying the sunshine in St.Maarten

Hi Dave Happy New Year and welcome,

I'm curious regarding the post of IT Officer, is that a big change from being R/O?

Regards,

Mike

Welcome to a survivor.

How did the transition to IT go?

The old school still represented afloat today. Great!

The change to IT was kind of gradual.
HAL gave the opportunity to do a bit of training and hands on with the PCs and network - so instead of just saying cheerio to the R/Os , they kept us first as "comms Officers" and then a few of us went a bit deeper and now if it has a keyboard it's ours.

To quote a mate of mine "If it isn't morse,it has to be binary" - it's all communication.
cheers
