Clearly Glen Line's 'Glenartney' (4), built 1940, berthed ahead.

The engine is an 0-6-0 Diesel Electric shunting engine of the J45/DES1 type, weighing some 51 tons, the bogie, wheels etc built by the Vulcan foundry in Lancashire, with the main diesel electric engine made by English Electric, one of 10 such units exported by English Electric to Malaya in 1948.

Good photo thanks for posting.

I was 1st Radio Officer/Purser on the Atreus and the following is extracted from my book, BACK TO SEA.

"And I was still writing up my cargo book and dealing with Penang cargo when the tally clerks were bringing their sheets to me. The two diesel-electric railway engines, which had labels stuck on their sterns stating that they were "Built by the English BB Preston Lancs", were discharged on Saturday afternoon and I watched as, using our derricks, they were slowly and carefully swung onto the quay. We were port side onto the quay so that the engine on that side was discharged first. When it was landed, the ship heeled over to starboard and remained there until the second one followed.
