Only information I have is that this is 'immediate post WWII' so have said '1945'. I wonder if knowledgeable readers will be able to add to this minimal detail?

Yes is sure does look like it was taken immediate post war WWII by the look of the work that's going on the quay which is berth 47 with the Queen Mary arriving at berths 43/44 on the opposite side of the Ocean Dock.

Hi Graham, this shot was taken at Southampton in November, 1946. The Queen Mary is arriving at the conclusion of her last voyage under Government Contract. She will soon begin the long period of restoration that will see her return to full peacetime service. Aquitania had been docked where you see her in this picture, for nearly a month; she was having some of her passenger areas restored for an upcoming voyage to New York in December. The reason for the upgrade was because Britain's labor secretary Ernest Bevin would be aboard the ship for that particular voyage. This single round trip voyage will be the last one to New York for Aquitania, she would never see the American port again.

Thanks, Clyde, for your additional, interesting info. An 'update' to the Aquitania for a Labour politician, surely not? Don't worry I merely jest and have not forgotten the taboo subjects for discussion/debate whilst at sea.
