That must have been a nice change of pace - and climate.

Well we were all geared up for a deployment in the tropics next stop Singapore but instead we were sent off to fight a war in the freezing cold South Atlantic still wearing our tropical clothing. We were told we would pick up cold weather clothing at Ascension. My idea of cold weather clothing and the MOD`s idea was definitely not the same. We were issued with two sets of overalls and a pair of wellies and a fur cap. Plus in the Gulf we was on 5 a day extra overseas allowance. This dropped to 1 a day in a war zone. Thankfully my ship came through unscathed and I can sit here and write about it.
