Friend sent me this picture asking did i know the names of the ships pictured. Think Port Line ship could be Port Auckland but not sure of Blue Star ships. Location is River fal.

Dave,

PORT AUCKLAND for sure, the two Blue Star look like sisters of the quartet which comprised the steamers TASMANIA STAR and AUCKLAND STAR, and the motorships ADELAIDE STAR and WELLINGTON STAR. I think the steamers had slightly taller funnels, so maybe one of each. Maybe someone has records which can tell us.

Thanks Robin. just make out aft accommodation for crew. Don't think Adelaide Star as I think she had engine problems on last trip and went straight to breakers. English Star had aft accommodation to I think. Cant find anything on Port Auckland laying up.

All the NZ Conference Lines, Port, Blue Star, NZS and Shaw Savill laid their ships up in the River Fal for short periods, usually in our summer, early autumn.

Definately PORT AUCKLAND (8 June to 1st October) with WELLINGTON STAR (16 July to 30 September) and ENGLISH STAR (19 September to 2 November) King Harry Reach, River Fal
