Pinchgut/Fort Denison is visible just beyond her ensign.

Have found this same picture on another website and they state it is Orient Lines Ormuz entering Sydney Harbour. No date given but it is before 1901 because at that time the ship had a post-collision refit and her funnels were increased in height.

Alan, thanks for the information, but with all those small vessels tied up alongside and her gangway appears to be lowered, she seems to be at anchor...

Cheers Frank

Yes Frank, you are correct, there is no doubt she is is not "entering" Sydney at this point.

To me she is clearly bunkering here, at least two of the small craft have coal chutes up and she is just off Bennelong Point, i.e. where the Opera House is now and as Cisco says Fort Denison to the left. Circular Quay would be just to the right off photo, with the future Harbour Bridge further right.

I suggest that she has disembarked her incoming passengers at the Circular Quay and moved out to anchor here to bunker, before returning to Circular Quay to embark outgoing passengers.

Doesn't look good to bunker with coal when you have passengers on board....unless you have to!

Kind Regards
