As stores-ship. Taken 1898, the Forth Bridge behind her.. Just to show how 'colourisation' can add a bit of life to some old photos. However, the process should ALWAYS be noted in my opinion! (ALSO my original title was wrong, accounting for the two comments - received with thanks, alteration made).

I'm pretty sure this is the former IMPREGNABLE which was broken up in 1906. The Forth Bridge was completed in 1890 so this picture must date from beyond then.

Hmmm... Caption says HMS Caledonia 16.9.98

Wiki says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Impregnable_(1810)

So Caledonia ex Impregnable....

Interesting photo Iain. From the end of WW2 until late last century there was a shore establishment, HMS Caledonia, just behind Rosyth Dockyard and within a mile of two or where this was taken. Here Engineroom, Ordnance and Shipwright Artificers served part two of their four year apprenticeship. May I take a copy to pass on to some of them via a newsletter please?
