Description on the postcard reads (translated): "Hook of Holland. American Steamship with frozen meat." The date given is 1918. The name is a 5-letter word, possibly beginning with C. The homeport would be Seattle.

It looks to be a United Brands funnel Markings. I am intrigued by the white hull and the big black smudge amidships, would that be Coal dust from Bunkering? or just the standard oil spill?

Home port - as one would expect for United Fruit, reads New York.
But the name is eluding me - not enough photo references!
Useful checklist: http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/ufruit.shtml
The raised poop is quite distinctive.
