What are the two cylindrical tubes on either side of the bow leading up to a point over the stem? I've ssen similar set-ups on the old RN monitors but had no idea what they were for. I assume to hang something off?

Correction regarding the bow davits ....they were lowered down to below waterline and projected the hammering apparatus to counter acoustic mines. "Kango (Road drills) Hammers" were fitted into a steel conical box fitted to the davits over the bow as in the photo. The Davits were lowered down so the conical box was below the forefoot. I'll post a photo.
