Hi Malcolm,

At the time, this incident was the first time a British ship had been lost with all hands for many years. After collision with a tanker, it was engulfed in fire and all crew, passengers and River Plate pilot were lost. Since the Derbyshire loss, Royston Grange is not so well known but remembered by all of us at sea at that time.

Rgds Richard

What a horrible accident. Can't believe I'd never heard of it before. ROYSTON GRANGE was a handsome-looking vessel.

She is remembered in a stained glass window at the church of All Hallows by the Tower, London.
